It’s Bonfire Night weekend! We’re huge fans of the DIY back garden display (toasty house only yards away, potential laughs at dad’s inept firework-wrangling, no queues for the loo), but for true spectacle, you can’t beat a public display. There are tons all weekend across London (find lists here and here), so you might want to display-hop. North Londoners should try the inaugural Fortismere School display (Nov 5) with stalls from Carter’s Steam Fair and fire-eaters. Blackheath‘s event (Nov 3) is HUGE, impressive and free, Brockwell Park and Streatham Common‘s free displays will take place at the same time (Nov 2), and Barnes Bonfire Night (Nov 3) kicks off with jazz from St Paul’s School. Newham’s free display (Nov 4) on Wanstead Flats is accompanied by a laser show (cue rave flashbacks), and Tower Hamlets free displays take place simultaneously at three parks across the borough (4 Nov). Brent’s free show in Roundwood Park (Nov 5) features rides from the George Irvin Funfair. Phew. Have fun and be safe!
