There’s probably a German word for the joy of standing around in thick coats and cosy hats and scarves watching people in skimpy trunks jump into freezing water. This Saturday, the Outdoor Swimming Society hold their annual December Dip, where hundreds of crazies jump into the icy waters of Parliament Hill Lido. We’re suggesting you go as spectators rather than participants, of course. There will be prizes for best-dressed swimmers, warming snacks, and the North London Brass Band on hand to parp a festive soundtrack. Dippers pay £15, but onlookers get in for a donation of £1 (which seems kind of topsy-turvy to us). More here
